AQUAPONICS SYSTEM
What is aquaponics?
It is a natural circular system. Fish, plants and bacteria live together in a healthy ecosystem that doesn’t need pesticides and antibiotics. The fish and vegetables produced in this way are sustainable, healthy and delicious
How does it work?
Water from our fish tanks, rich in organic matter, is filtered by mechanical and biological filters and sent to the plant production area. There the plants are absorbing all the nutrients they need. The plants are purifying the water and that is then returned to the fish tanks to start the cycle again. This is circular economy!! It is super cool and a precious way to save water!
WHY IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
The Aquaponic system is different from traditional agriculture because: • water is not wasted in the environment and it is continually reused; • fish waste is used as a natural fertilizer for the plants; • fish and vegetables are not contaminated by pesticides, antibiotic and external pollutants; • our fish and plants are attentively monitored during all steps of production; • our production is natural, healthy and ethic;
OUR PROJECT
Mangrovia concentrates on agricultural production and social development with the aim to contribute to empower and innovate the local communities using ethical and sustainable actions. Our project started with aquaponic production to supply the community with fresh vegetables and fish.
Aquaponics is not only a system to produce healthy and sustainable food but also a way to talk about different agricultural methods and environmental issues, especially to the young generations.
We want to focus on education and consciousness because we believe that only in this way we can give our contributions to a better and greener future.
